Whareroa Farm

The Whareroa Farm recreation reserve near Paekākāriki is home to some spectacular mountain biking. Enjoy a grade three circuit from the Whareroa carpark, up the Link Track (aka the Zig Zag) to Five Ways Lookout, head further up to join Campbell’s Mill Rd, then turn right and climb to the start of the Cash Flow downhill track back to the carpark. Most mountain bikers climb up using the Link Track.

Whareroa Farm - Link Track

This trail is the main uphill trail for mountain bikers. It winds its way up the hill of Whareroa Farm and meets Campbell Mill Road. It is a tough but feasible climb to the Five Ways lookout at the top of Whareroa farm.

Here you can choose to ride back to the carpark via the Five Ways track or climb a little higher and head down Red Tape or return down the Link Track. There are awesome views at the top and most of the way up.

Whareroa Farm - Red Tape Track

This is one of just two mountain biking-only trails that run through the Whareroa Farm boundaries. Legend has it that this downhill-only single-track might have been named after the Club’s difficulties in surpassing regulations for its development. It’s a fabulous testament to the perseverance of the Kāpiti Mountain Bike Club.

This trail entrance is just below Campbell’s Mill Road (off the Link Track, just above Five Ways lookout). The single-track twists, bends and bumps and will keep you focused as you wind down the hillside through stunning regenerating native bush with views of the Kāpiti Coast and Kāpiti Island on the way.

There are steep drop-offs in places as it winds up and down like a roller-coaster, eventually finishing among open grasslands, joining Intake Valley track (shared with walkers) then linking back to the carpark via the Farm Race Track.

Queen Elizabeth Park - Inland Track

The Inland Track winds along a flowing ridge in the middle of Queen Elizabeth Park where the sandhills are more stable, enabling mahoe, flax and ferns to thrive. You’ll be treated to views of the Tasman Sea and forested foothills and on a good day the islands of the Marlborough Sounds will be visible. This track has breathtaking views and is loved by locals.
